Letter from Kryzle

Dear Quest Families,

I was lucky enough to have worked in the Quest Program at Tomorrow’s Topkid this summer. From the pools, the beaches, the hikes and everything in-between, the kids have made it a summer to remember. The Quest program has allowed me to watch the kids grow in many different aspects: from expanding their knowledge and experiences to challenging themselves both physically and socially.

The Quest kids got to broaden their knowledge and do things they wouldn’t have done before by solving crime cases at the Police Museum and learning to juggle at theVancouver Circus School. At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary, they got to learn about different bird species and got the chance to place seeds on their palms and have birds fly right onto their hands. Another one of my favourite activities was having a Downtown Vancouver scavenger hunt and experiencing Flyover Canada! It was fun exploring and helping familiarize the Quest kids with the Downtown area as well as viewing Canada’s beautiful landscapes from coast to coast.

This summer was special for me as I played a part in helping challenge the Quest kids through physical activity and exploring the different aspects of what it means to be socially responsible. Through the various hikes we got to do such as Lynn Canyon, Lighthouse Park and the Grouse grind, it was amazing to encourage and see kids who didn’t think they could get through the hikes end up accomplishing it! There were also many physical activities they learned to do for the first time such as Dragon Boating, Kayaking, Rock climbing, and high ropes at Wildplay!

However, it was most memorable for me to be a part of introducing the Quest group to different activities focused on giving back the community. It was awesome to see the kids helping with cleaning the shoreline at Whiterock beach one week, then making sandwiches for Covenant House the next. Not only that, but also helping expose the kids to working with different age groups; whether it be volunteering at Rosewood manor assisting the senior residents with their bingo cards or playing outdoor games with the preschool-aged children in the Kiddyland program.

Words cannot describe all the fun and memorable activities and moments that I got to experience with leading the Quest program. I will truly miss solving numerous riddles, playing games of Bucket, and listening to the kids singing as loud as possible to the music blasted on the bus! I’m sad to say goodbye to the summer and everyone that I got to meet, but I thank the parents, staff, and this year’s amazing group of Quest kids for making this a summer to remember.

Good luck and have fun in the upcoming school year!

Cheers,

Kryzle
