Hello TTK Families!
This week we are bringing you another installment of our blog series – staff favourite activities!
Next up is… Deanica!
Deanica has been working with TTK every summer for the past 8 years and has now joined the team at our MacCorkindale Clubhouse for the school year. Not only has she been a staff for many years, she was once a TTK participant too! Deanica has worked as a student staff member through her highschool years, in the kitchen for our summer programs making snack and lunch for over 100 kids, with the Spree program, as our Outdoor Education Leader, and more.
One of her all-time favourite, go-to activities is a favourite group game of many TTK participants… Octopus!
How to play:
- Choose one child to be the Octopus. If you have lots of children, or your Octopus is younger, you can choose more than one Octopus.
- The rest of the children are Fish. They line up on one side of the gym or playing area.
- The Octopus stands in the middle. When they yell “Ocean!” all of the Fish must run from one side of the gym to the other, and the Octopus tries to tag them.
- If a Fish gets tagged, they become a Seaweed and need to freeze where they were tagged.
- Seaweed can tag other Fish as they run by, as long as the Seaweed’s feet remain stuck to the floor!
- When lots of Fish have been turned into Seaweed, the Octopus can yell “Tidal Wave!” which releases all the Seaweed back to being Fish.
- The game is over when everyone becomes a Seaweed, or when a new Octopus is chosen!
