Staff Favourite – Maribel

Hello TTK Families!

Here we are with another staff favourite activity! This week we are bringing you Maribel’s favourite art project.

Maribel has been working with TTK since 2006. You can find her at our Ferris Clubhouse in the afternoons, usually making snack, hanging out on the playground, or wrapped up in an art activity!

Maribel’s favourite art project is sewing. She loves to teach the children how to thread a needle, and make their inspirations come to life. Children usually love making pillows or stuffies!

The best way to start sewing with your children is with some felt, a needle and thread, and some stuffing. Cut out a simple shape that is the same size in both pieces. Hearts or circles work well! Help them to thread their needle and tie a knot. The knot is the hardest part! Demonstrate a few stitches before letting them take over. Once you’ve gone almost all the way around the outside, stitching both pieces together, pause – its time to add the stuffing! Once you’ve filled it up, stitch closed and tie a knot to end your sewing.

Your stitches will not be perfect, some of your stuffing may come out, but that’s okay! Its only your first sewing project. Try again tomorrow!
